About

Artist, dreamer, observer, introvert, paradox, kid at heart, nature lover, nerd, perfectionist. In a nutshell, that’s me. I enjoy drawing, writing, reading, listening to music, playing tabletop and video games, and watching DVDs, among other things. I collect dragons, I think rocks are awesome, I am crazy about Medieval weapons and armour, I prefer storms and overcast skies, I love water, I dabble in more media than I can keep up with, I read comics, I adore animals, I daydream frequently, I listen to video game music, and I wear Hawaiian shirts.

To start at the beginning, I was born November 17, 1981 in Nashua, New Hampshire. As I grew up, my family moved to Brussels, Belgium; Seattle, Washington; and eventually Austin, Texas, where I spent fifteen years of my life before getting married and moving to Ontario, Canada in 2005. I learned to drive, started to work, and failed to get a college degree in computer technicianing in Austin, and that’s where I was when I met my husband. I attained permanent resident status about a year and a half after moving here and am currently building a fantasy/scifi novel publishing business.

I have never had any formal classes or training in art. I have spent years working on improving my style mostly by studying art I like and from life. Like most artists, I have been drawing ever since I could hold a pencil, though my skill didn’t progress much for much of my youth. I was in junior high school when I examined some Sailor Moon art on the ‘net – I liked the art, if not the show – and first tried to draw something with some attempt at form and shape. It was a turning point for my art, and where my style began. My current style is not based on any particular artist or even genre, necessarily. I enjoy far too many different art styles to say any particularly influence my work.

I have also been writing for all of my life, and aside from one creative writing class in college that focused on short stories, have also not received any formal classes or training for it. It’s been about ten years since I first attempted seriously noveling, though I am only now beginning to show some success for my efforts. I write poetry sparingly and have focused more on prose, with my natural inclination leaning towards fantasy. I just find being taken into a different world more engaging. I really couldn’t say where my writing style comes from. While I have taken inspiration for story elements from various sources, the words have always been just how I tell the story.

Photography is a more recent passion than the others, one that only – if you’ll forgive the pun – developed, of course, when I first got my own camera.  It was a simple point-and-shoot, but I took a few nice pictures with it, and it kindled an interest in capturing the world in an eye-pleasing manner.  As a result, I later upgraded to a Panasonic Lumix FZ-18, which I now use to take all my photos.

I don’t see myself pursuing a career in art or writing. I have always believed this. I am a hobby artist and writer. I draw because I want to and I have come to learn that I simply can’t take it more seriously than that. I write because I have stories I want to tell. While I would really like to make some money on the side for what I do, I never want to draw or write because I have to. I do this for fun and that’s that.
