While doing my annual Christmas photo session last week, I took some nice shots of my cat, Mew, too. Enjoy!

Look at this gorgeous beast and tell me this isn’t the Platonic ideal of a cat. If only he wasn’t so crazy.

In the middle of licking his chops. A lot of treats were involved in getting these pictures.

I actually picked up my sketchbook and pencil for the first time in quite a while recently and drew up some headshots of the characters from Halcyon:
The characters in the first image are: Zander, Elya, Galina, Amélie, Chen and Dwayne. In the second image: Shad, Deadeye, Gerod, Solace, Sinclair and Squirrel.
It feels good to draw again.

Originally drawn a couple years ago, inspired by this drawing, Heritage House “Yesterday” musical carousel horse, and classic My Little Pony art, dedicated to K. Healey of Letraset for his excellent customer service.

Playing with markers. November from the catgirl calendars I used to do.
Also, I’ve gotten some more wonderful fan art for Aurius:

Finally taking an image off my pile of works in progress, this one was originally drawn two years ago. I remember the image appearing suddenly in my head at the time, with no particular inspiration or provocation, at a time when I wasn’t drawing much worthwhile. As such, it’s nice to finally see it finished, even though it’s not one of my more recent works in progress. Hopefully something that’s been waiting a little longer to come soon.

It’s not much of a backlog anymore, nor is it necessarily all sketches, but I have a streak going. Why not keep it up? (I’ll post some writing soon. I swear.)
Walking home last week, I saw someone in our neighbourhood walking a dog with really pretty markings that reminded me a bit of African wild dogs, and I wanted to draw it.
Our cat Tux, drawn from life last September.
Concept sketch for a larger piece. I have a very vivid picture in my mind of how this one’s going to look, but alas, I don’t think I’ll have the chance to work on it for some time, so I threw down some quick colour a few minutes ago to try to keep the image fresh. Unfortunately, it’s only making me want to work on the final version of it more. C’est la vie.
Obviously not a sketch, this is a progress image of a picture I worked on this weekend. The sketch was done about three years ago, though I couldn’t work myself up to painting it until now. I have about three hours’ more work on this one done now, but I do have priority art I should really work on first, so I’m not sure when it’ll be finished. It will be, though, undoubtedly, and hopefully before too long.

As the title makes clear, this is a blog about my art and writing, right? And while I honestly haven’t finished any art yet this year and I don’t share my novels online, that doesn’t mean I don’t have anything to post. And while I still don’t have much to share, there is no excuse for letting it pile up a bit anyway.
So, I aim to rectify that, starting now. Drawing has been a bit sparse since November at least, but I have at least done the following sketches:
While this drawing has been on this site for a while, I never made note of it. This is the villain of my novel Eyes of a Dragon, and one of very few times I have drawn an older character.
Click for larger image. Marle from Chrono Trigger, in something of a challenge to an anonymous visitor who came here looking for “chrono trigger marle nude.”
My first sketch of 2010, done on the last day of January, this is the star of Eyes of a Dragon, Jeremy. The face was based on a photo of figure skater Jeffrey Buttle and the hair was loosely based on a photo of my own.
I don’t know when I’ll have new art to share, finished or otherwise, but I have some short writing to post here in the near future, so stay tuned.
I really need to start drawing more.
